The top 5 series arriving on Netflix in August
The mid-aughts ABC smash “Ugly Betty” will be added to Netflix’s collection in August.The streamer is also introducing new seasons of “Heartstopper” and “The Ultimatum.”
And this month sees the release of the new Netflix original “Painkiller,” which explores the
opioid issue.
Season 2 of “Heartstopper” (August 3)
This month marks the return of Netflix’s charming coming-of-age series for a second season, and it has already won praise for its sympathetic and accurate depiction of queer youth. Anyone should watch “Heartstopper,” which is based on the comic book of the same name, regardless of sexual orientation.
“Painkiller” (10th of August)
In this fictitious drama concerning the start of the opioid crisis and the Sackler family’s relationship to it, Uzo Aduba, Matthew
Broderick and Taylor Kitsch play the lead roles. One of the wealthiest families in the US, the Sacklers are the owners of Purdue Pharma, the maker of the painkiller OxyContin.
The six-part television series is based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s 2017 New Yorker article “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” and Barry Meier’s book “Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic.”
(August 23) “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” Season 2
After the launch of a queer-focused edition earlier this summer, the crazy dating program is back for another season. Similar to the first season, the new episodes will follow a number of heterosexual couples as they struggle to determine whether to get married or move on
with members of other partnerships.
Thankfully, compared to other Netflix dating series like “Love Is Blind,” “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On” is less focused on marriage and instead embraces the commotion that the title demand causes.
“One Piece” (31st of August)
Fans of the popular manga series “One Piece” will no doubt have strong feelings about Netflix’s adaptation of the show. The show, which is dubbed a “legendary high-seas adventure,” seems to be entertaining and captivating even for people who don’t read manga.
